Why I Voted to Partner with CWI on the Ford Idaho Center; Putting Nampa Families First

Fellow Nampa neighbors,
The past few months have been a marathon on the Ford Idaho Center—a 100-acre gem that's hosted our rodeos, graduations, and countless memories. But here's the hard truth: maintaining it costs us $3-4 million yearly, with deferred repairs piling up like snow on Borah Peak. As your councilwoman, I couldn't stomach watching it crumble on our dime.
After 100+ hours of public forums, expert calls, and deep dives into options, we voted 4-2 to convey the Center to the College of Western Idaho (CWI). No cash changes hands; instead, CWI takes the reins on upkeep, ensuring it stays open for events that knit our community together—all without raising your property taxes. This isn't giving away a treasure; it's smart stewardship. CWI's Nampa campus abuts the site, letting them invest in shared facilities that benefit students and residents—like expanded ag programs and job training right here at home.
I know it's bittersweet—change always is. Some worry about losing control; I get it. But clinging to an unsustainable burden would've meant cuts elsewhere: fewer parks, strained public safety, or yes, tax hikes. We explored selling, leasing, even private bids—none matched this win-win.
This decision echoes my priorities: fiscal smarts, guided growth, and transparency. I heard you at every meeting, and your input shaped the path. What's next? More community events, preserved access, and a Center that thrives for generations.
